The first month of the new year is about to end and I haven't even updated this thing. I'm sorry. I tend to get distracted A LOT (A LOT IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT).

And you know what's worse? I have two travel posts that I haven't even edited. As a blogger, I suck, I suck big time. I mean, I kept blabbing about wanting to put up a travel blog and now that I got to travel (thank you cebu pacific seat sales for allowing me to go to Singapore and Vietnam and thank you cheap ass buses for allowing me to cross to Cambodia. More on that when I post my travel stories, soon hopefully.) I get to lazy to make proper write ups. What's wrong with me?

Anyway, I'll try harder to focus. I have to.

So what's been keeping me away from blogging? Well, I'd like to say that I've been on glorious adventures but truth be told I've been stuck behind a desk basking in the monotony of paper pushing. (Ok, I'm being overly dramatic here)

Just an update, I'm teaching the principles of marketing this term, it's harder than I expected but I think I'm getting the hang of it, I mean, they look interested and they laugh at my punchlines and it's a challenge because I need to always be a step ahead during lectures, I feel like a student who needs to report every meeting. And one mistake from me would make me look stupid and ridiculous.

The only blooper I had so far? I fell off my chair. Yes, I fell off my chair because I was rocking it. It was terrible! I mean, who falls off chairs aside from impatient grade schoolers???

And also, I decided to forego eating rice just to shed off the extra weight. The no-rice-eating thing is hard because I love rice, I can't have a meal without rice so true enough upon my break up with rice, I got sick.

What else? I got a new camera. It's not a top of a line DSLR or an ultra high tech point-and-shoot It's a GE X500 super zoom camera/ bridge camera. Talk about bang for your buck, It costs cheaper than the usual nikon/canon/sony/samsung brand but it's good enough. I can study the basics of manual photography while having the option to enjoy the ease of having a point-and-shoot camera. I bought it for 7,500 pesos (roughly 175 US dollars) will try to post a review soon.

That's about it, I promise to TRY to blog more often cos you know it's a new year and I want to commit to something (for once)

So you want to see the world, eh? Well, I do too. As far as I can remember, the only constant thing on my list of “career choices when I grow up” is Backpacker. Dreams of becoming a doctor, lawyer or even a rock star have come and gone but being a backpacker, well that’s a different story. I remember watching Travelers and Lonely Planet on Discovery channel as a kid and that’s where the whole fascination with Backpacking started.

Growing up, I have mastered the art of traveling using a single backpack. Even during family trips where almost everyone is lugging a giant suitcase, I’d be walking around with my backpack. That also holds true back in college. I was always the only one carrying a single backpack, whether it’s a field trip to Sorsogon or a Romblon-Boracay budget vacation via a 17hr RoRo ride. I always carry a single backpack.

Anyway, this post wasn’t really created to glorify the backpack. This is actually meant to kick off (what I hope to be the first of many) posts about backpacking adventures.

Blame it on Pop culture and the western civilization but naturally my ultimate goal is to backpack across Europe and smoke outside a café in Paris, get stoned in Amsterdam, lick the Colosseo in Rome and write on the Berlin wall (insert other backpacking clichés here).

But I also recognize the fact that the whole backpacking across Europe thing is harder for people like me. I mean coming from a developing country with a reputation of producing an alarming rate of illegal immigrants… well, you get the picture.

I wrote down the basic stuff I need to actually go through with my plan:

1) Valid Passport

2) Schengen Visa

3) UK Visa

4) Money (LOTS AND LOTS OF IT)

Looks easy but well, it’s not! It’s harder than it looks.

So far, the only thing I have is a valid passport. That, and a notebook full of plans.

clinically dead: the first post syndrome

For chrissake, this is my nth blog and still I tend to suffer from er.. blogger's block whenever I need to write my first post. Not that the world is hanging on to every single word I say. But still, I feel pressured by all this. Perhaps because I feel that the first post would set the tone for the rest of the stuff that I will be putting up. I don't know, but it took me ages to actually start writing this. It's too much pressure! It's hard and awkward and I feel like anything that I put here would be something that I'll later on regret when I backread a year from now. But I've been procrastinating too much so, here it goes.

First off, I am not a writer. Really, I am not. I just blab a lot. My ability to spew out witty one liners could only be summoned when I have ingested copious amounts of cheap beer. Inspired thought only comes to me in the bathroom or during painfully inconvenient life moments where writing is impossible (i.e surviving a bus accident, watching a movie in a dark theater and walking along katipunan drunk in the dead of the night)

Second, I fear that everything I say would never be original. (And I'm pretty sure somebody had thought about this too.) So what would set me apart from every other blogger? I was going to launch an entire explanation about how common experiences differ because of the individual's ability to feel and process what happened. But, meh. We are all a like. That, we have to live with.

And finally, I have a horrid grasp of punctuation. So feel free to march your grammar nazi ass out of my page if you can't handle my unjustly abuse of commas. (Don't worry I am working on it but old habits die hard)

Now, I made a new blog because I die a little every time I read posts from my old one. Ha! Ha! I actually wanted to create a travel blog but I fear that I will not be able to travel enough to always have new posts so that's a bust.

Anyway, since this will be a personal, journal-like blog so expect some posts to be cryptic, others instructional and others may simply be horrible, unthought-of cringeworthy rants about something that I may despise at that specific moment.

So yeah, there. I do not know what else to say. And I can't think of a good way to end this post.

This has been sufficiently awkward.
